Couples & Family Therapy
Rebuild, reconnect, and move forward together.
What Is Couples Therapy?
Couples therapy is a structured therapeutic process that helps partners identify unhealthy patterns, improve communication, and rebuild connection. Whether you are navigating a specific crisis like infidelity or simply feel disconnected from each other, couples therapy provides a safe, facilitated space to do the work of healing together.
Micah uses a combination of the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), two of the most researched and effective approaches for couples work. The Gottman Method, developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman from over 40 years of research at the University of Washington, focuses on building friendship, managing conflict constructively, and creating shared meaning. EFT, developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, helps partners identify the emotional cycles driving their conflict and create more secure emotional bonds.
Sessions last 50 minutes and typically begin weekly. You will start by identifying the patterns that keep you stuck, then work on developing new ways to communicate, listen, and respond to each other. Micah creates a balanced environment where both partners feel heard without judgment.

What Is Family Therapy?
Family therapy is a collaborative process designed to strengthen relationships, improve communication, and resolve conflict within the family unit. Rather than focusing on a single individual, family therapy examines the dynamics and patterns that affect the whole family system.
Micah works with families using psychoeducation, gestalt therapy, and motivational interviewing. These approaches help family members understand each other's perspectives, develop empathy, and establish healthier boundaries. Sessions may include parents and children, siblings, or extended family members depending on the situation.
Family therapy is especially effective when a family is navigating a transition such as divorce, remarriage, or blending households. It also helps when a teen is struggling behaviorally or emotionally and the whole family needs to adjust how they communicate and support each other.

Getting Started
Both couples and family therapy begin with a free 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your goals and determine if it is a good fit before scheduling your initial session. During the consultation, Micah will ask about the challenges you are facing, who would participate in sessions, and what outcomes you are hoping for.
Your initial session will be a deeper assessment where Micah learns about the history of the relationship or family dynamics. Together, you will create a treatment plan that addresses your specific concerns and establishes clear goals for the work ahead.
Sessions are available in person at our Dallas office and virtually for clients in Texas and Colorado. Both formats provide the same quality of care and therapeutic structure.
